Steels for structural applications
These steels have several technological properties such as weldability, formability, bending, galvanising and machinability. Formability is a process that modifies the mechanical properties that, consequently, are guaranteed on the product as supplied. Regarding bending, hot rolled structural steels are suitable to this process.
In case of cold worked profiles, the rupture can be avoided provided that the steel is subject to a pre-heat treatment (annealing and normalisation). Every type and grade of non-alloy structural steel can be generally well-machined with machine tools for ordinary manufacturing processes. The steels with the highest sulphur content have usually good machinability.
